Anita and the Dragons is beautiful story about the courage it takes to emigrate and the love of our homeland.

Anita watches the dragons high above her as she hops from one cement roof to another in her village in the Dominican Republic. Being the valiant princess she is, she never lets them scare her.

Then one day, Anita must face her fears and begin life in a new country. Will she be brave enough to take flight to new adventures?

Beautiful and bittersweet

A bittersweet storybook written from the perspective of Anita as she prepares to emigrate with her immediate family from the Dominican Republic.

This explores the mixed feelings of a child as they leave all they know to travel far away from their home to make a new and better life. The excitement of more modern conveniences but the worries about the plane journey and leaving her wider family behind.

Anita imagines herself as a brave princesa of her island watching the dragons (planes) flying high above.

Cunhas beautiful illustrations always engage - A Story About Afiya is another we have and we just love her style. Vibrant yet soft.

My daughter's favourite thing was how brave Anita was even though she was scared to board the plane (enter the belly of the dragon!) She said she would be excited to have a warm bath too.

We highly recommend this one
